Next Meeting: Monday, June 17, 4:30 pm - School Board Meeting, District Office 7th Street

June 5, 2019 Board of Education Meeting Outcomes

  • Unanimously voted to include preschool at the district's new K-8 school at Steamboat II.
  • Approved renovating space at Strawberry Park Elementary School and creating space at Soda Creek Elementary School to include one section of preschool at each school with the flexibility to add additional sections of preschool in the future.
  • Preschool project costs are currently being recalculated by district consultants to align with the board's vote and will be presented to the board as part of the full cost of the bond package at the Board of Education meeting on June 17, 2019. The district and its consultants are prioritizing affordability and cost effectiveness in creating a potential 2019 bond package.

June 3, 2019 Board of Education Meeting Outcomes

  • Unanimously voted for a new K-8 school. A new K–8 school would house students in kindergarten through grade 8 in one building. Grade configurations at the district’s current elementary schools and middle school would not change. This would increase the number of traditional schools serving students in kindergarten through 12th grade to five schools.
  • Special meeting scheduled for June 5.
  • The board’s goal is to have all decisions related to 2019 funding measures made by June 17.

May 20, 2019 Board of Education Meeting Outcomes and Updates

  • Unanimously voted to select Steamboat II as the future location of a new school facility.
  • Unanimously voted to narrow the type of new school facility to two options: New K-8 school and a K-4 replacement elementary school to replace Strawberry Park Elementary, which would become part of the 5-8 middle school campus.
  • Delayed decision on type of new school facility the district will build until June 3, 2019.
  • School locations for the district’s preschool program will be considered during the priority projects discussion at upcoming board meetings.
  • Special meeting scheduled for June 5 for discussion and/or possible action related to a potential bond, including: Finalizing priority projects at the various school sites, the overall size of the bond, and discussion related to potential mill levy overrides to address operational costs of a new school and staff compensation.
  • The board’s goal is to have all decisions related to 2019 funding measures made by June 17.

We committed to informing, engaging, and investing our community in a plan for district facilities and programs that will benefit students in Steamboat far into the future.
